Law & Order: Special Victims Unit

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is better known as Law & Order: SVU or just SVU. It is a show based on American police procedurals about the Special Victims Unit in an unreal but fantastic account of the 16th Precinct of the New York City Police Department. The serial started on 20th September, 1999 as a sequel of the crime drama Law & Order and had the same opening manner of its parent. At present, it is one of NBC’s top rated shows and is also the highest-rated series of the Law & Order series.

This show investigates into the underworld of the New York. The team of detectives of a new elite force called the Special Victims Unit, probe and prosecutes many sex related crimes and at the same time they also try to stabilize their own personal life, which is more than often affected by the investigations.

The special unit of the police department known as the Special Victims Unit deals with all crimes related to child-abuse, pedophilia, torture, and rape in New York City. The team has detectives Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. Stabler finds it a moral duty to defend all citizens from the criminals, particularly as he had four kids of his own, and because of his bad temper his wife and children went away from him. He is a person who is trying to save people from the bad outside world. Detective, Olivia Benson was conceived when her mother was raped and had to suffer all the consequences of her mother’s alcoholism. She is a child of a rape. Detective John Munch is a cynical ex-Baltimore murder detective who is trying to start a new life in NY City. Detective Fin Tutuola is a streetwise cop from the Hood. Last, but not the least, Captain Donald Cragen, the boss. All of the stories are very touchy as it includes pain and emotions. It can be very disturbing, horrific and scarring at times as, everybody who is watching can feel the trauma and agony of the character.

Though, the facts and results may be fairly dissimilar, same as the parent, many Law & Order: Special Victims Unit shows are a fictional representation of high-profile real-life cases or famous fictional works, and are based on sparsely indirect dramatizations of the real crime.
