Degrassi: The Next Generation is the creative work of Kit Hood and Linda Schuyler that was produced as a drama series. This is in fact the fourth series based on the fictional Digrassi universe and follows the earlier popular shows titled The Kids of Degrassi Street, Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High. The plot of this series revolves around students of the Degrassi Community School and the problems faced by them during their teenage years. These include child abuse, drug abuse, peer pressure, shootings in school, self image, teenage pregnancy and many more. Every episode of the show is created keeping a particular formula in mind and therefore there are more than one storylines that are carried on. Each of the episodes center around a particular issue; and this issue might or might not be solved at the end of that particular episode. The thread is then carried forward on to the next episode. The 8th season of the show was broadcast in 2008 and the producers are ready with the 9th season as well that is scheduled to be on air from October 2009.

Degrassi: The Next Generation casts some of the actors from its previous seasons and a group of eleven school children to play the lead roles in this series. The role of Archie “Snake” Simpson has been played by Stefan Brogen who has been portrayed as been employed as the media immersion teacher in this season. The role of the school principal had been played by Dan Woods who continues his stint as Mr. Raditch. Amanda Stepto is another actor who returns to the cast of this popular series and plays Christine “Spike” Nelson. Amongst the new actors who had been cast to play the students include Evan Wiiliams, Jajube Mandiela,Andrea Lewis, Raymond Ablack,Daniel Clark, Aubrey Drake Graham, Natty Zavitz, Jordan Hudyma, Judy Jia and many more actors.

The popularity of this Canadian drama series can be gauged from the fact that it has had a successful run for eight seasons and the ninth season is expected to be on air soon. Moreover the success of the show has led to the introduction of web episodes and mini series.
